Former Middlesbrough and England coach Steve McClaren has left Dutch champions FC Twente to become the new boss of German side Wolfsburg.

McClaren has been considering his options, after leading FC Twente to the Dutch title at the weekend.

He is known to have attracted interest from Britain - but has rebuffed the chance to return home in favour of a new experience in Germany.

Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga title in 2009 - but things did not go so well for them last season and they sacked Armin Veh shortly after the winter break.

Lorenz-Gunther Kostner was in caretaker control but he could only guide them to eighth place.

McClaren has now agreed a three-year deal to take control of the club.
