Mavuba admits "a win would be nice"
Lille midfielder Rio Mavuba admits "a win would be nice" this weekend after the ignominy of a 6-1 Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich.
Mavuba and company resume Ligue 1 business against visitors Brest on Saturday following a fourth successive defeat in Europe.
"The score was especially bad. It was hard," Mavuba told www.lequipe.fr.
"It is hard to make the breakthrough in the Champions League. Every year we lose the best players.
"Now we need to catch up for this weekend against Brest. A win would be nice."
The good news for Lille fans is that Brest cannot win away from home in the league this season.
Lille, in contrast, are on a four-match unbeaten run, and they will look to continue that momentum despite Saturday's game coming just three days after their capitulation in Munich.
And it is a possible reaction to that drubbing that is uppermost in the mind of Brest boss Landry Chauvin.
"Given the outcome of Wednesday, I fear the trip to Lille," Chauvin told www.rmcsport.fr.
"We have before us a wounded animal. Our next two opponents, Bastia and Reims, are more within our reach."
Lille are currently eighth in Ligue 1, five places above Brest, and it is the visitors' dreadful away form that also threatens to undermine their hopes on Saturday.
They have scored just one goal during the last three away games, coming unstuck against Ajaccio (1-0), Lyon (1-0) and Toulouse (3-1).
