Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has been ruled out of next week's Champions League clash with Celtic with a hamstring injury.

Mascherano was injured in the second minute of Tuesday's 4-1 La Liga win over Real Sociedad and is now likely to be ruled out of action for two weeks.

The Spanish club said: "A strain in the right thigh muscle was confirmed which will put him out of action for 10-15 days."

Barca coach Gerardo Martino is already without captain Carles Puyol, who has had knee surgery, and left-back Jordi Alba, and Mascherano's absence leaves him short of defensive options for the Celtic clash.
