Martinez excited by Everton
New boss Roberto Martinez has stressed the need to build on the platform that David Moyes has provided at Everton.
Martinez has been appointed as Everton manager after guiding Wigan to FA Cup glory last month and is excited about the challenge ahead.
"I had 10 years with Wigan and really enjoyed every second of it as a player and as a manager," the Spaniard told Sky Sports News.
"Now I am really excited to have the honour of being the manager of a phenomenal football club like Everton and I'm looking to the future.
"What David Moyes has done there is incredible. Now it's time to maintain those standards and build on that platform."
Martinez's time with the Latics came to an end in bittersweet fashion as relegation was confirmed just days after lifting the FA Cup but he believes things have ended amicably at the right time.
"They know I gave everything that I had and I know they gave great support," he added. "We've got a great relationship. It's something that will never go away.
"But it's the right time for them to move on with a new energy under a new management team and it's the right time for me too.
"It's happened naturally and in the right way and I'm sure that from a distance we'll both support each other."
