Federico Marchetti is looking forward to a fresh start after completing his move to Lazio from Cagliari.

The goalkeeper passed a medical on Tuesday to seal a 5.7million euro transfer to the Italian capital.

Marchetti, who was also a target of Juventus this summer, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

"I have chosen Lazio because it is an important project and a great club,'' Marchetti said on the club's official website.

"My aim from the very beginning was to join Lazio.''

Marchetti was frozen out of Cagliari's first team last season after refusing to sign a contract extension with the Sardinian outfit.

The 27-year-old is ready to put the past behind him.

"This is the end of a nightmare for me,'' he said. "I have great enthusiasm.

"I am physically well as I trained every day as though I was going to go out and play.

"My conscience is clear and I am ready to begin this new adventure.''

Marchetti is set to succeed Fernando Muslera, who is expected to join Galatasaray later this week.

Lazio will play in next season's Europa League.
