Manu's double helps Sevilla top Racing

Manu scored twice as Sevilla won 3-0 to boost their European hopes and increase Racing Santander's relegation worries.

The visitors came into the match on the back of two straight Primera Division defeats, but went in front in the first half thanks to Jesus Navas' opportunist strike.

Manu's low shot doubled their lead early in the second half and from then on Racing never seriously looked like mounting a fightback as their winless run grew to 10 games.

Their misery deepened when Papakouli Diop was sent off 11 minutes from time and Manu's second in stoppage time completed a night to forget for the hosts.

The visitors were quick off the mark and Piotr Trochowski had a shot saved by Mario Fernandez, while Alvaro Negredo headed over the top from a Navas cross.

And that pair were involved as Sevilla went in front in the 34th minute.

Fernandez parried Negredo's shot from the left side of the area and Navas was on hand to fire the rebound high into the roof of the net.

Racing looked for a response before the break and would have drawn level in the 44th minute were it not for a brilliant save from Andres Palop, who tipped Christian Stuani's header from Edu Bedia's free-kick over the bar.

Palop was also called on to deal with two dangerous corners from Bedia on the stroke of half-time as Sevilla reached the break in front.

And they extended their advantage in the 52nd minute as Manu drilled a low angled shot into the net from the left edge of the area. The forward almost put his side out of sight soon after when the ball fell to him in the area following Trochowski's free-kick, but his shot came back off the bar.

At the other end Khouma Babacar had an effort from inside the area tipped over by Palop, but Sevilla were soon back on the attack and Trochowski sent a header wide from close range.

Racing's task became even harder when Diop was shown a straight red card for a foul on Trochowski in the 79th minute.

Frederic Kanoute miscued his shot from six yards as Sevilla sought a third, and it arrived deep into stoppage time as Manu converted Navas' ball in from the right with a low finish.
