Manchester United are on the brink of crashing out of the Europa League in the group stage

As if not qualifying for the Champions League and ending up in the Europa League wasn't embarrassing enough for Manchester United, they may suffer further embarrassment: going out in the Europa League group stage.

The Red Devils lost to Fenerbahce, 2-1, on Thursday and now find themselves on the outside looking in of the knockout stages. Their six points from four matches has them trailing Fenerbahce and Feyenoord by a point with just two left to play.

The good news for United is they still control their destiny. They host Feyenoord in their next Europa League match so they can jump the Dutchmen with a win and then would only need to top last place Zorya Luhansk in the finale to advance, but that doesn't really make things much better for the Red Devils. After all, they're Manchester freaking United and we're discussing Europa League advancement scenarios. And if they lose to Feyenoord, well, they might be out of the competition before even getting to their last match of the group stage.

If you think the heat is on United and Jose Mourinho now, just imagine what it would look like if they don't make it out of their Europa League group, because that's a very real possibility now.
