Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has been taken to a hospital with a head injury after a scary collision with goalkeeper David de Gea in a 1-0 win over Arsenal.

United manager David Moyes says Vidic was ''conscious, will get a scan and as far as we know he is OK'' after what he calls a ''horrific-looking'' collision.

The Serbian center back's head snapped back after striking De Gea's hip as the keeper leapt to punch the ball clear in the final minutes of the first half Sunday. Vidic spat out a mouthful of blood before leaving the field unaided. He didn't return for the second half.

Earlier, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny played on despite appearing to be knocked unconscious after bumping heads with United defender Phil Jones.
