Malawi players killed in road accident
Police say three top-flight soccer players in Malawi have been killed in a road accident. They were on their way home after being thrown off a team tour for going out drinking without permission.
Police spokesman Kaitano Lubrino said three other players from the MAFCO club were hurt and another person killed in the accident early Friday in the central region of Nkhota Kota after the truck they were traveling in overturned. Lubrino said the other person who died was the assistant truck driver. The three injured players were taken to a nearby mission hospital.
MAFCO general secretary Oscar Lipenga said the six players involved in the crash had been suspended and sent home after leaving the camp without permission for ''a drinking binge'' following a game on Wednesday.
