Malaga defender Nacho Monreal has replaced the injured Sergio Ramos for Spain's friendly away to Italy on Wednesday in Bari.
Monreal, who transferred from boyhood club Osasuna to Malaga this summer, joined Spain's training camp on Monday.
Ramos was dropped from the world and European champions' squad after hurting his back during Real Madrid's preseason tour.
Spain plays Liechtenstein on Sept. 6 in a Euro 2012 qualifier. Vicente del Bosque's team is currently top of Group I, six points clear after five games.
