Italy midfielder Christian Maggio has extended his contract with Napoli through the 2014-15 season.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis made the announcement Tuesday on the club's website, adding that the team has also registered the transfer of Eduardo Vargas from Universidad de Chile and it is hoping the Chile forward can make his debut in the Italian Cup next week against Cesena.
De Laurentiis says ''these are the first two deals of this year and shortly we'll also announce a renewal for (forward Marek) Hamsik.''
Playing in the top European competition for the first time since Diego Maradona helped the southern club to two Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990, Napoli faces Chelsea in the second round of the Champions League next month.
