MADRID (AP) Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid say the transfer bans imposed by FIFA have been temporarily suspended until the appeals process is finalized.

The Spanish teams said they were notified by FIFA on Friday.

The decision comes two weeks after soccer's world governing body banned Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid from registering new players for two transfer windows for breaching rules involving underage players. The bans would only take effect in the summer window, so they could still be imposed pending the outcome of the appeals.

Real Madrid said FIFA's appeal's committee ''decided to provisionally suspend the sanction imposed on the club.''

Atletico Madrid said ''the probationary suspension ... shall be applied pending the outcome of the appeal filed by our club.''
