Mackie relishing Spurs clash
Rangers became the first promoted club for more than 10 years to beat Chelsea as Heidar Helguson's penalty proved enough to see off their near rivals last weekend. Much of the post-match talk has been about allegations Chelsea skipper John Terry racially abused Anton Ferdinand, although Mackie was keen to ensure the team's success was not overshadowed. "The lads are really confident as a dressing room, but it is not often a promoted side can play one of the top four and get a result," he said. "When they came to our place it was a great atmosphere for everyone and I think the lads did really well. "On days like that I think you need a bit of luck against the top teams. "Chelsea had a couple sent off, which gave us a platform to kick on and we got over the line and it gives us confidence against Tottenham now. "It was nice to get [our first home win] and to do it against Chelsea is even better for the fans so we can kick on now. "I think our home form has got to be top draw for us to do well this season and I am sure we can kick on now." Tottenham provide tough opposition tomorrow as QPR go in search of back-to-back wins for the first time since they returned to the top flight. Mackie has only appeared fleetingly since the club's promotion due to serious injury, but believes the squad have what it takes to succeed - especially thanks to their summer signings. "Last season a lot of new players came to the club and we all gelled so we had a good base for the new lads to come in this season," he said. "All they have done is add to the quality we already had in the team and given us a boost now to kick on the Premier League. "Those lads have played in the Premier League for a long time, the likes of Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips. They are top players." Mackie and QPR will come up against a familiar face tomorrow, with Kyle Walker expected to line up for the north Londoners. The Tottenham right-back spent the first half of last season on loan at Loftus Road, impressing as the Rs rose to the top in the Championship. Walker subsequently went on loan to Aston Villa and has now established himself in the Spurs first-team, as well as the England squad. QPR manager Neil Warnock was quick to thank the 21-year-old for his impact at Loftus Road last season and believes the best is yet to come. "Kyle is a smashing lad and he really helped us out last year with his performances," he said. "I think we were just what he needed. "I don't think he was going anywhere in particular when he came over, but I think the way the lads are here at the club and the way I am gave him the platform to enjoy himself. "Once you start enjoying yourself you get noticed and all credit to him. "We were disappointed to lose him at Christmas but he did well at Villa. "You take Kyle [for what he is]. He will make you pull your hair at times and then the next minute he will do a 150-yard run, go past four players, cross the ball and score a goal. "He has got everything but you forget he is only a young lad."
