Luis Fabiano commits to Sevilla
Luis Fabiano has agreed a two-year contact extension with Sevilla, the Primera Division club confirmed.
The Brazil international, whose previous deal was due to run out in June 2011, has regularly been the subject of transfer speculation over the last few years but he has now decided to commit himself to the Andalusian outfit.
The 29-year-old joined from Porto in 2005 and has been a prolific goalscorer during his five years in Spain, as well as helping Sevilla win two UEFA Cups, two Copa del Reys and the European and Spanish Super Cups.
Fabiano had been linked with a sumer move to Tottenham.
Luis Fabiano, who has struck 95 goals in official games for Sevilla, said: "It's a very happy day. This is my home, I've been here six seasons and I will try to continue scoring goals and continue making history for Sevilla. It's a very special day for me.
"My first option was to renew with Sevilla. I rejected many offers and there were many interested teams. My desire was always to be here and what's true is that we have made a great effort to renew the contract."
He added: "Sevilla have given me everything. When I arrived here the fans didn't think much of Luis Fabiano, because at my two previous teams in Europe (Porto and Rennes) things didn't go well.
"But here I've returned to the national team, I've won many titles...I owe a lot to Sevilla, that's the truth."
Monday's news will come as a major boost to Sevilla after last week suffering a huge blow when they were knocked out of the Champions League play-offs by Braga.
Sevilla, who also lost the Spanish Super Cup to Barcelona last week despite leading 3-1 from the first leg, will now play in the Europa League this season, and on Friday were handed a tough group draw against Paris St Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Karpaty Lviv in Group J.
Antonio Alvarez's side bounced back from their Champions League disappointment with a 4-1 win over promoted Levante in their opening match of the Primera Division season on Saturday.
Looking ahead, Luis Fabiano said on his club's website: "My first objective is to continue scoring goals and after be in the Champions League next season and win a title, which is very nice."
