Lucky escape for Spireites

BY foxsports • November 29, 2008

Chesterfield's FA Cup clash with Droylsden was abandoned at half-time at Saltergate on Saturday, with the non-League side leading 1-0.

The Conference North outfit had already accounted for League Two Darlington in the first round and were on their way to repeating the feat before thick fog descended in Derbyshire.

Aaron Downes went close for the hosts and Jack Lester had an effort blocked but Droylsden went ahead in the 35th minute.

Neil Prince was the creator, sending over a cross for Carl Lamb who headed home from the edge of the six-yard box, but the conditions came to the Spireites' rescue.
