Lille beats Sochaux to move within point of title
Gervinho scored in the 53rd minute as Lille beat Sochaux 1-0 Wednesday night and moved within one point of clinching its first French league title since 1954.
Gervinho ran onto a pass from Moussa Sow for his 15th league goal of the season.
Lille (20-4-12), which beat Paris Saint-Germain in the French Cup final last weekend, has a six-point lead over second-place Marseille (18-6-12) with two games left. Marseille clinched no worse than a berth in the Champions League playoff round when fourth-place PSG lost 1-0 at Bordeaux, which got a sixth-minute penalty kick from Cheick Diabate. Third-place Lyon (16-8-12) is six points behind Marseille.
Lille, which has a plus-31 goal difference to Marseille's plus-23, would clinch with at least a tie Saturday at PSG or if Marseille fails to win at Valenciennes. Lille hasn't won the league-cup double since 1946.
