Liechtenstein gets 2-0 win over Lithuania
Liechtenstein beat Lithuania 2-0 on Friday to earn the first points of its 2012 European Championship qualifying campaign.
Philippe Erne scored in the sixth minute with a rising 20-meter (20-yard) shot and Michele Polverino added the second in the 36th after being set up by Franz Burgmeier.
Lithuania failed to make its possession count at Rheinpark Stadium despite having 21 efforts on goal and forcing 10 corners.
Despite the victory, Liechtenstein remained last in five-team Group I, trailing Lithuania by one point. It next plays in the return match on Sept. 2 in Lithuania.
Group leader Spain, the World Cup and European champion, has a perfect record with five straight wins.
