Lazio climbs to fourth place in Serie A
Lazio kept their Champions League hopes alive with a 2-0 victory at Atalanta in Serie A on Sunday afternoon.
Libor Kozak fired home a first-half opener and Lorik Cana made the points safe in the 90th minute after the hosts had had Guglielmo Stendardo sent off for dissent.
The win left fourth-placed Lazio two points behind Udinese in third with one game left.
The visitors started brightly with Stefano Mauri shooting wide in the sixth minute, while at the other end German Denis fired over the top from long range.
Mauri had a shot from inside the area saved by goalkeeper Giorgio Frezzolini and Senad Lulic rifled wide as the Romans continued to press.
And they went ahead in the 25th minute as Kozak picked out the bottom corner with a right-footed shot from inside the area.
The hosts looked to respond in the second half with Luca Cigarini shooting high and wide and Maximiliano Moralez also firing off-target.
Substitute Manolo Gabbiadini finally tested Albano Bizzarri with a shot from outside the area, but the visiting keeper was equal to it.
Stendardo headed wide, while at the other end Abdoulay Konko worked Frezzolini with a shot from the left.
The hosts suffered another setback in the 81st minute as Stendardo was shown a straight red card after complaining to the referee.
And, a man light, Atalanta were unable to keep the pressure up, with Mauri bringing another save out of Frezzolini.
And former Sunderland midfielder Cana added a second in the last minute, firing into the top corner from outside the area to seal the win.
