Lazio bidding to keep up the pace
High-fliers Lazio are determined to hold onto top spot in Serie A when they host Brescia on Sunday.
They will be hoping that Inter Milan slip up against Juventus this weekend in order to go solo at the top of the standings, provided they beat Brescia.
Edoardo Reja's men have reason to be confident.
They made amends for their 2-0 defeat at Sampdoria in their league opener by beating Bologna and Fiorentina.
The Biancoceleste then held AC Milan to a 1-1 draw before beating Chievo in Verona last time out.
Mauro Zarate's solitary goal at Chievo handed the Romans their third win of the campaign.
The Argentina striker had reason to be delighted for the goal brought to an end his eight-month scoring drought.
"I am very happy because my goal has given the team victory," said Zarate. "It had been a long time since I last scored and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
"Now we hope to continue to play as we are doing and keep on winning."
Brescia travel to the Eternal City on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Bari that brought to an end their three-match winning run.
The outcome dropped Giuseppe Iachini's side to fourth in the standings, one point adrift of Lazio.
Brescia midfielder Nicolas Cordova gave little importance to that defeat, their second of the campaign, and hopes his team will bounce back immediately.
"It's just a minor slip and it doesn't cancel the good things we have done so far," said Cordova.
"Our aim is to reach the 40-point mark this season which would be enough to guarantee us Serie A survival.
"We cannot think of anything else but defending our top flight status this season."
