Laws anticipates Reid return
Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis is pondering whether to offer a contract to former Wigan striker Nathan Ellington following a trial at the League One club.
The 31-year old has impressed whilst on trial and he has six League One appearances to his name this campaign, having spent time at Scunthorpe United earlier in the season.
Ellington has been without a club since leaving Ipswich Town in January and Davis says he is currently weighing up his options.
"Obviously I have to think about the future of our club and that is our young players and I didn't want to do anything which is detrimental to them," he told Crewe's official website.
"I have to think about them being pushed down the pecking order if another one comes in. Here at Crewe it is important that we play our younger players and if they play well then they get a chance here.
"A player of Nathan's quality is difficult to bring into a football club like ours, he is a proven goal-scorer at the very top level and financially it is difficult.
"If we are to do something, and I am still weighing up the option, then we'd have to see what sort of financial packet he'd be looking for, whether we could afford it, and whether he wants to do it.
"I haven't totally made my mind up. I can only judge by what I see and he has caught the eye, but it is a difficult decision because of the impact it could have on our young players. But it could be positive because they could learn from him. It's whether the positives outweigh the negatives."
Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Yeovil dropped Rovers to sixth in the League One table, having held an automatic promotion place for the majority of the season.
The loss at Huish Park was a far from ideal way to start March following a month that brought one win from six matches and a run of four consecutive defeats.
"It's been an awful month, honest to God, there's been no doubt about that," Moore said.
"If you look at the games that we've had, we've had three home games in there and not won them.
"That's been the disappointing thing for us because the home form's been really good.
"Away from home we're as good as anybody in this division, I think we've won nine away.
"But when you're playing Carlisle and home and Shrewsbury at home and you go down to 10 men in both those games it doesn't help you. Everything that could go against us has gone againsts us to be fair.
"After going to Colchester and getting the 5-1 win, a great result for us, and then drawing with Notts County I expected more from us at Yeovil because it was such a crucial game.
"If we'd won the game on Saturday we'd be five points clear of them instead of one behind them."
Iron captain Reid has resumed training after illness forced a three-match absence.
Further good news comes from striker Akpo Sodje, who completed a practice match on Tuesday morning having been sidelined by an ankle injury.
Laws told The Iron Player: "We're all in good spirits and it's nice to see Paul Reid back in action, now that he's overcome the virus he had.
"They are very encouraging signs and we are delighted that our skipper is back for the weekend.
"It gives me a decision to make and it's been a long time since I've had to make a decision.
"Niall Canavan and David Mirfin have done okay, but we have missed Reid's leadership and organisation.
"He will certainly be an important player for us between now and the end of the season so I don't think there is any question that he will be coming back into the side.
"He was struggling with a virus and it took him a bit to get over it but he's ready and raring to go now.
"We've had another big positive with Akpo Sodje training this week. We're pleased with that, and we keep our fingers crossed that we have no recurrences or any other issues, and hopefully he'll be available for the weekend."
