Changes to an environmental law under consideration by Brazil's Senate could open the door to 2014 World Cup stadiums being built in conservation areas.
The changes would include World Cup projects among a series of exemptions that could allow the deforestation of conservation areas across the South American country.
The proposal before the Senate says the urgent construction of stadiums and other facilities needed for international events could be authorized in areas currently deemed protected.
Senate commissions are analyzing the changes before they can be put to a vote.
