Frank Lampard insists there will be no issues with Rio Ferdinand taking over the England captaincy from John Terry ahead of the World Cup.

Lampard's close friend and club captain John Terry was stripped of the Three Lions armband by Fabio Capello following revelations about his personal life.

Subsequently, vice-captain Ferdinand is to take charge of England for the finals in South Africa this summer.

Despite the upheaval, Lampard is insistent that Ferdinand will do an excellent job.

"They are big personalities. The England captain has to be someone vocal in the squad. And Rio has always been like that," Lampard told the People.

"He has always been popular in the dressing room and easy to get on with. The controversy of the changeover is unfortunate, but now it has changed Rio deserves it and will give it a great crack.

"And Fabio Capello was something that we really needed. He has grounded us."
