Keeper Robinson quits England despite recall

England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has announced his international retirement, hours after being recalled to the squad.

Robinson's mistakes during the failed qualifying campaign for the 2008 European Championship cost him his starting job, and he had not played for England since 2007.

But the 30-year-old Robinson has been impressive since joining Blackburn from Tottenham in July 2008. For Wednesday's friendly against Hungary, coach Fabio Capello decided to drop 40-year-old David James and Robert Green, whose blunder in the World Cup opener gave the United States the tying goal.

But Robinson didn't want to be the No. 3 goalie behind Joe Hart and Ben Foster.
