Kean expects Santa to deliver
Santa Cruz agreed to rejoin his first English club on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the season. The Paraguay striker made a huge impact in his first spell at Ewood Park before leaving for City in a £17.5million deal in summer 2009. He struggled to establish himself at Eastlands but Kean now believes Rovers can reignite the 29-year-old's career. Kean said: "It is about quality - he is fantastic on the ground, has a great touch and obviously his aerial ability has never been in question. "His overall stature and class is something that can raise the bar for everyone here. "What is massive for him is that this is not like going to a new club. "This is coming back to somewhere that is special and I am sure he is going to deliver just as good, if not better this time around." Santa Cruz scored 29 goals in two seasons with Rovers - 23 of them in his first campaign - after arriving from Bayern Munich. Kean feels his signing is a clear statement of intent from the club's new owners Venky's, who were ridiculed earlier this month for making over-ambitious attempts to sign Brazil star Ronaldinho. City have hardened their stance on loan players' wages since heavily subsidising Craig Bellamy's switch to Cardiff earlier this season and Blackburn are paying most of Santa Cruz's salary. Kean said: "That is something that shows the fans we can now go and compete and we can see off other teams, not only in this country but abroad. "It shows the ambitions of the owners to match these fees and salaries to bring quality to the club." Santa Cruz has made just two appearances for Roberto Mancini's City this season and managed just four goals during his frustrating spell at the club. Santa Cruz said: "I felt a bit ignored by the manager. It's been hard not to play, not to be chosen, even though I feel great. "It's frustrating, I've been playing a lot through the years with small injuries and just when I feel perfect to play and perform I wasn't selected. "I feel like I am coming home, this has been the easiest decision of my career. "I want to get playing and scoring goals again and this is a real chance for me to prove myself after a frustrating period. Everyone knows what Blackburn Rovers means to me." The deal does not include provision for a potential permanent deal but Kean intends to continue discussing the situation with Rovers in the hope of making the switch long-term. He will also now turn his attention to other targets in the hope of further strengthening his squad during this month's transfer window. He said: "It has surprised me how difficult it has been to even get a loan deal in. "But it is ongoing. I don't know the timeframes because I thought everything would have happened a bit quicker but hopefully we will have some more additions soon." One other new addition this week has been that of former Arsenal midfielder John Jensen to the coaching staff. The Dane's arrival has attracted some negative comment given that he has only just met Kean and that he is a client of agency SEM, who also represent Kean and advised Venky's ahead of their takeover in November. But Kean said: "John has got vast experience in coaching and I wanted to add another bit of quality to the backroom staff. "John is going to bring quality not only in the way he delivers coaching sessions but in his outlook on the way the game is going to be played." On the pitch, Blackburn face a tough test on Saturday as they travel to champions Chelsea. The Lancashire side have managed just three away wins this term but Kean is confident of inflicting more damage on the out-of-form Blues at Stamford Bridge. He said: "They are a fantastic team but we go there with confidence after winning three of the last four. "Chelsea have got a lot of strengths but there are areas where in previous years they were stronger and that's where we'll be looking to get at them. "We are not thinking about previous defeats but turning over a new page and looking forward to away games." In an eventful week at Blackburn, forward El-Hadji Diouf has also got involved in a row with QPR manager Neil Warnock. Warnock accused Diouf of taunting his player Jamie Mackie after he broke his leg in last week's FA Cup tie between the two clubs. Kean has tried to take the heat out of the situation, saying: "I have spoken to El-Hadji and he has told me his side of the story. "We are trying to speak to everyone around the incident but I just hope the lad makes a speedy recovery. "We'll move on from that."
