Juventus survive Olympiakos scare; Atletico top Malmo

Juventus just about edged a topsy-turvy Group A encounter with Olympiakos to put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Andrea Pirlo, making his 100th appearance in Europe's premier club competition, lit the touchpaper with his goal from a trademark free-kick, but Alberto Botia's header restored parity moments later.

After an hour the destiny of the points swung towards the Greek champions briefly as Delvin Ndinga caught Juve cold with a headed goal.

Fernando Llorente and Paul Pogba then orchestrated the game's second comeback with the Spaniard forcing Roberto to put through his own net before setting up his French team-mate to score.

Juve had done enough to secure their 3-2 win but were thwarted in their last attempt to extend the margin of victory as Arturo Vidal missed a penalty deep into stoppage time.

Massimiliano Allegri's side are now level on six points with Olympiacos ahead of meetings with group leaders Atletico Madrid and fourth-placed Malmo.

Atletico Madrid 2 - Malmo 0

Atletico Madrid moved ever closer towards a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 2-0 win at Group A rivals Malmo on Tuesday night.

Diego Simeone's men were unable to repeat the performance which saw them hammer the Swedes 5-0 last time out, but goals from Koke and Raul Garcia were enough to earn the Primera Division side their third successive win which moves them clear at the top of the group.

It was a heart-wrenching result for the home side, though, who had battled bravely at Malmo New Stadium but lacked the fortune needed to see off last season's finalists.

Benfica 1 - Monaco 0

Taslica scored a valuable goal to give Benfica their first win in Champions League Group C as they claimed a hard fought 1-0 victory over Monaco on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian produced the goods from close range in the 82nd minute as the Portuguese side look to avoid elimination at the group stage for the third successive season.

The two sides drew 0-0 on Matchday Three with Benfica desperate for a win as before kick-off they were bottom of the group with one point.

Benfica started the brightest and would have gone ahead had Eduardo Salvio found a more clinical touch to a chance created by Talisca.

Despite dominating proceedings, Benfica were unable to trouble Monaco goalkeeper Danijel Subasic in the first half.

Taslica became the first to put one pat Subasic in Group C with a close-range finish with eight minutes left on the clock, with the hosts then holding on to claim a slender win.

Basel 4 - Ludogorets 0

Basel boosted their hopes of qualifying from Champions League Group B with an emphatic 4-0 win over Ludogorets at St Jakob-Park.

First-half goals from teenager Breel Embolo and Derlis Gonzalez put the hosts in control, and further strikes after the interval from Shkelzen Gashi and Marek Suchy sealed matters as the Swiss side made light of the injury-enforced absence of captain Marco Streller.

The result earned Paulo Sousa's team a measure of revenge after Ludogorets posted their first ever Champions League triumph at the expense of the Swiss side in Sofia a fortnight ago.
