Juventus beats Napoli 4-2 to win Italian Supercup
Juventus beat Napoli 4-2 to win the 2012 Italian Supercup in Beijing on Saturday after scoring twice in extra time.
The match came a day after Juventus coach Antonio Conte was suspended for 10 months for his role in a domestic match-fixing scandal.
Edinson Cavani put Napoli ahead in the 27th minute, Kwadwo Asamoah equalized for Juventus and Goran Pandev restored Napoli's lead just before the break.
However, Arturo Vidal leveled for Juventus in the 73rd minute from the penalty spot and the match swung the Italian champion's way when Napoli had Pandev and Juan Zuniga sent off in the last five minutes of regular time.
Juventus took full advantage in extra time, courtesy of an own goal by Christian Maggio and a strike from Mirko Vucinic.
Asamoah dedicated the victory to Conte, who watched from the stands. His coaching assistant Massimo Carrera was in the dugout.
''Our coach has always been there to help - ever since my first day with Juve,'' Asamoah told Italian media. ''We never gave up, even when we were behind. It was really tough, but we knew it would be. Napoli deserves a lot of respect.''
It is the club's fifth Supercup victory. It last brought home the trophy in 2003 after defeating Milan in a 5-3 penalty shootout.
Napoli last advanced to the Supercup in 1990 when it stunned Juventus with a 5-1 win.
The traditional season opener between the Serie A champions and the Italian Cup winners took place for the third time in four years in Beijing.
