Theodore Whitmore has resigned as Jamaica coach amid a World Cup qualifying losing streak.
Jamaica Football Federation President Horace Burrell announced the move Wednesday. Jamaica lost 2-0 to Honduras on Tuesday following losses to Mexico and the U.S.
“Once you’re hired you can be fired,” Whitmore told reporters after Jamaica's loss to Honduras.
Burrell says a ''coach's tenure depends on the results'' and the team's performance under Whitmore has ''not been good.'' He says a new coach will be in announced in the next few days.
Jamaica currently sits in sixth place in CONCACAF's Hexagonal standings, with two points out of six matches played. Jamaica's next World Cup qualifier will be on Sept. 6 when they travel to Panama. Jamaica will host Costa Rica at the National Stadium on Sept. 10 followed by a trip to the United States October 11.
During his four-year tenure with the Reggae Boyz, Whitmore led Jamaica to a Caribbean Cup title in 2010, the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifiers and their first appearance in CONCACAF's World Cup Hexagonal round since 2001.
