Inter Milan defender Yuto Nagatomo is out for the rest of the season and midfielder Walter Gargano is also set for an injury layoff.

The pair were injured in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Cagliari in Trieste.

Nagatomo tore a meniscus in his left knee and Gargano has a left thigh strain.

Inter did not say how long the players are expected to be sidelined but Nagatomo is unlikely to be fit before the end of the season. Gargano could be back for the final few games.

Nagatomo lasted only eight minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute. Gargano limped off in the 53rd minute.

Inter is in seventh place with six rounds remaining. It faces Roma in the second leg of the Italian Cup semifinals on Wednesday, trailing 2-1.
