Inter: Zanetti has ruptured Achilles

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti is facing a long spell on the sidelines after being stretchered off with a ruptured Achilles tendon injury in his club's 1-0 loss to Palermo on Sunday.

A statement on Inter's website confirms the extent of the injury:

"Javier Zanetti underwent tests at Pavia's Policlinico San Matteo this evening after being forced off the pitch in the 17th minute of Inter's game against Palermo this afternoon. The scans carried out revealed the captain has ruptured the Achilles tendon in his left foot."

The injury could put the Inter and Argentina legend out for eight months, but because of Zanetti's age, it may possibly be the end of the 39-year-old's career.

One of Inter's best players ever, Zanetti has been with the club since 1995 - captain since 1999 - and racked up more than 800 appearances for the club. He is also the most capped player in Argentina's history.
