England's preparations for Wednesday's friendly at Denmark have been hit by four players withdrawing from the squad including injured midfielder Steven Gerrard.

The Liverpool captain, who would have worn the captain's armband in Copenhagen due to Rio Ferdinand's calf injury, picked up a groin problem during a 1-0 win at Chelsea on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster and striker Peter Crouch were also released after fitness tests at England's team hotel in Watford, north of London.

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has also withdrawn due to personal reasons.
