Injured striker Defoe withdraws from England squad
Jermain Defoe has withdrawn from the England squad for the European Championship qualifier against Switzerland with an injury.
England's Football Association did not specify the injury ahead of the June 4 match at Wembley Stadium.
Defoe completed the full 90 minutes in Tottenham's final match of the season against Birmingham on Sunday and was then named as one of four strikers in Fabio Capello's squad.
Tottenham teammate Peter Crouch remains in contention to start up front along with Aston Villa's Darren Bent and Fulham's Bobby Zamora.
England is top of Euro 2012 qualifying Group G after four games, ahead of Montenegro on goal difference.
