Midfielder Samir Nasri has pulled out of France's squad to play Uruguay and Brazil next month after injuring his kneecap.

The French football federation said in a statement on Wednesday that the Manchester City player got injured in a friendly against Chelsea last week in the United States.

Lyon playmaker Clement Grenier was called up to replace Nasri in a squad that will visit Uruguay on June 5 and Brazil on June 9 to prepare for World Cup qualifiers in September and October.

Nasri last played for France at the 2012 European Championship in a 2-0 loss to Spain. He was banned for three games for insulting a journalist in an expletive-laced tirade. His comeback was a bit of a surprise as he struggled in the Premier League this season.
