Hyypia: Leverkusen feeling fit
Sami Hyypia says Bayer Leverkusen are showing no signs of tiredness before facing Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Leverkusen were held to a 0-0 draw by Metalist Kharkiv on their European debut while opponents Borussia Monchengladbach returned from Limassol with the same result.
Although the result was not ideal, Hyypia has not lost any players to injury with a gruelling schedule of fixtures with a game every three days on average ahead.
"Of course we are a bit disappointed about the 0-0, but that's the way it is sometimes in football," he said.
"The important thing was that we did not concede and we maintained our balance, and the side did that well.
"All of the players are fit so everybody is available to play (on Sunday), and that is a very good situation.
"We don't devise the fixture list, we just have to accept that we play Borussia Monchengladbach now."
While Leverkusen were at home on Thursday night, Gladbach had a long journey back from Cyprus on Friday morning and that could also be a factor.
"They don't have a long journey in their legs," said Gladbach's Roel Brouwers.
"It is going to be difficult for us, but of course we will try to take something away with us.
Gladbach defender Martin Stranzl also said the trip to the Mediterranean puts his side at a disadvantage.
"With these midweek fixtures, this is certainly going to be a tough game in terms of our energy levels," he said on his club's website.
After a brief training session back on home soil, Gladbach coach Lucien Favre regrouped his troops for the short trip to Leverkusen with at least some benefit coming from playing a local rival and not another distant opponent.
The Swiss coach had already considered the travelling strains in advance by leaving Luuk de Jong, Juan Arango and Filip Daems behind in midweek, and that trio should return to the starting XI on Sunday.
