The Magpies were sunk by two-goal Peter Odemwingie and were outplayed for the majority of the 90 minutes at The Hawthorns. It means they have collected only two points from the last five games, and Hughton kept his players behind closed doors for more than an hour after the Hawthorns setback. He said: "We weren't good enough in enough departments and hence that is why we have been in there (the dressing room) so long. "Some of it is about getting answers, some of it about venting your anger but these are the normal things that will go on after a game. "I wasn't happy with the performance. On the back of a good result last week (versus Chelsea), I didn't think we started the game well enough. "But we have also given away poor goals and you can't do that against anyone in this division." Hughton added: "At the moment, we are going through a very difficult patch. "What we have to do is make sure we learn from it. "I do think we have the personnel and the characters to come through this spell. We are capable of picking up good results. "We have shown that already this season and, what we have to do after a bad result or bad period, is to be able to pick ourselves up again." To add to Newcastle's woes, midfielder Danny Guthrie was stretchered off with an ankle injury after the slip which led to Albion's second goal and will be assessed by the medical staff today. But in contrast Albion have moved up to eighth spot in the table after back-to-back league wins over Everton and Newcastle which have yielded seven goals. It took them over the 20-point mark for the campaign after a run of one point from five games before the 4-1 win at Goodison Park. Head coach Roberto Di Matteo said: "That makes up for the Carling Cup defeat at Ipswich in the week. It was a brilliant performance by the team today from the start to the end. "We scored some great goals, we had the majority of the game. "We had a little spell in the second half when we were under pressure, but we defended that period quite well, and then went onto score the second and the third goals." Di Matteo added: "We have come back well from a dip but we never lost our confidence. "We stayed positive even when we weren't getting results because we were still playing well and didn't get rewards for what we were producing at the time. "We didn't have that bit of fortune, there were a few decisions going against us at the time, but we just tried to stay doing what we've been doing so far which has given us some good success."
