Hodgson: Too soon to judge us

That's the view of the Albion boss himself. Hodgson has revived the Baggies' fortunes after being sacked by Liverpool, steering them clear of relegation and then guiding them into a top-10 position in the Premier League. They will look to start the New Year on a high note in Sunday's home clash with Everton after collecting seven points from the previous three games. But Hodgson has sounded a note of caution, as he is aware the current healthy position in the table could quickly change. When asked how far Albion have progressed, Hodgson said: "The true mark of where the club has come to, we will see at the end of the season. "If we're still in this league, if we are still in a good position in this league, making progress, then we can say that is a true position. "But, at the moment, the league is so topsy-turvy it would be foolish to start saying: 'Look how far we've come.' "Two or three bad results and you could be back down there again. That's how close the league is. "I hope I get that question (of how far the club have come) at the end of the season, then I'll happily answer it. "But at the moment I'm a bit wary about opening myself up to an answer which could be thrown back at me in a few months time." Albion should be full of confidence after back-to-back away wins over Blackburn and Newcastle and a creditable home draw with leaders Manchester City. Hodgson said: "We've got to be delighted. Every time you get back-to-back wins, you've got to be delighted. "When you follow that up with a good performance against Manchester City, who are the form team along with Manchester United, you've got to be pleased. "We've had three good games and there is no question of resting on our laurels. "What you've got to do is enjoy that and be sufficiently proud of that performance - but then you've got to carry it on into the next three games as well. "If the next three games go badly, you lose the advantage of the three good ones." Hodgson is also full of admiration for the success enjoyed by David Moyes in charge of the Toffees over the past decade. He added: "In recent years David has been the manager of the year on two occasions, had lots of accolades for the work he has done and that's because he has deserved them. "Everton are a very well organised team, a big club as well, and David has managed his resources in the best possible way. "Every year, whether they start off badly or whatever, they always at the end of the season seem to be in that top eight or nine clubs in the country. "Sunday will be about two teams that are pretty satisfied with what has gone on so far and two teams looking to push onwards and upwards to get even closer to that top six that who dominate the league." Baggies midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu will miss the game with a groin injury and could be out until after the FA Cup tie with Cardiff, but fears of a lengthy lay-off have been allayed. Hodgson said: "The scan says it's not that bad. Youssouf has a groin strain but there's no major muscle damage. "Whether he'll be back in time for the any of the New Year games or even the Cardiff cup game, I couldn't say at the moment. "It's an ongoing process. It won't keep him out for weeks and months on end, but it's a question of having to get him over the groin problem which has come about through over-use."
