Hodgson blasts Odemwingie bid

Odemwingie, who netted 15 Premier League goals for Albion last season, was the subject of a cheeky £4million bid from the Latics during the summer - an offer which clearly enraged Hodgson. And Hodgson, whose team host Wigan on Saturday, says he was never concerned about Odemwingie leaving for the DW Stadium. "The constant suggestion Arsenal were interested might have unsettled him," said Hodgson. "But the Wigan thing came right at the end and I don't think any of us were too concerned about that one. "It was a little bit like 'I wouldn't mind signing Lionel Messi, but he wouldn't come to West Brom from Barcelona.' "With Peter we made a big effort to improve his contract and show how much we want him here." Rock-bottom Wigan head to The Hawthorns six points below West Brom and with only one league win on the road this season.
