Columbus' William Hesmer became just the second keeper to score a goal in Major League Soccer history when he equalized in the second minute of stoppage time to help the Crew to a 2-2 draw with Toronto FC on Saturday.

The goal resulted from a scramble after a Columbus corner hit a defender and bounced down. Hesmer settled it with a touch and scored on a right-footed shot from 7-yards.

Columbus had brought Hesmer up to the Toronto FC penalty area in an all-out effort to gain a point.

He is the first goalkeeper to score in an MLS match since New York's Danny Cepero did it against the Crew in 2008.

Maicon Santos and Jacob Peterson scored for Toronto. Chad Marshall gave Columbus a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.

In other matches Saturday, the Philadelphia Union beat the New York Red Bulls 2-1, the Colorado Rapids downed the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1, the New England Revolution beat the Kansas City Wizards 1-0, the Houston Dynamo edged the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0, Real Salt Lake beat FC Dallas 2-0 and the Chicago Fire played out a scoreless draw with D.C. United.

Brazilian midfielder Fred put Philadelphia ahead and Michael Orozco Fiscal doubled the lead to help the Union past New York.

New York could have clinched the Eastern Conference regular season title with a victory following Columbus' draw.

Conor Casey and Omar Cummings each scored a goal each and had a hand in another to help Colorado rally for a victory over Los Angeles and earn their first playoff berth in four years.

Edson Buddle scored for the Galaxy, which leads Real Salt Lake by one point with one game left in the race for the league's best record and the Western Conference's regular-season championship.

At Foxborough, Massachusetts, Shalrie Joseph scored the lone goal to New England to a home win over Kansas City.

Joseph put the Revolution ahead in the 31st minute after taking a long pass from Chris Tierney.

Andrew Hainault scored in the 23rd minute at Santa Clara, California, diving low to head in Brad Davis' corner over Earthquakes midfielder Bobby Convey, who was guarding the near post.

It was the second win in four matches for Houston, which moved past Chivas USA and out of last place in the Western Conference.

Ned Grabavoy and Javier Morales scored to lift Real Salt Lake to a home win over FC Dallas.

Grabavoy scored his third goal of the season in the 59th minute off a high chip pass from teammate Robbie Russell. Grabavoy outleaped FC Dallas' Ugo Ihemelu to get his head on the ball, and knock it over goalkeeper Dario Sala.

Morales added his seventh goal of the season in the 90th minute, off a cross from Robbie Findley.

At Bridgeview, Illinois, Brian McBride had a goal disallowed as Chicago settled for a scoreless draw against D.C. United in the final home game of the former Fulham forward's career.

McBride, 38, whose scoring touch and tenacity earned him fans on both sides of the Atlantic and helped open doors for other U.S. players in England, buried a close-range shot in the net in the 64th minute. But play already had been called back after Jed Zayner went down in a brush with Patrick Nyarko.
