Hertha Berlin misses chance to move into top six, draws Freiburg
Freiburg remain stuck inside the bottom two of the Bundesliga after only managing a 0-0 draw at Hertha Berlin, who in turn missed the chance to move into the top six.
There were few chances at either end, with Admir Mehmedi having the best of Freiburg's and Adrian Ramos twice going close for the hosts, but both teams did too little to warrant more than a point in a goalless draw. Hertha move on to the same number of points as sixth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, who are in action on Saturday and have a superior goal difference.
Freiburg, meanwhile, remain below Stuttgart and Hamburg on goal difference having also now played one game more. Sami Allagui nearly gave Hertha a flying start when he flashed his shot wide after just 20 seconds but it proved to be a false dawn for the hosts.
Freiburg, playing a largely defensive game, threatened for the first time in the eighth minute when Mehmedi's shot skidded off the surface, making the save more difficult for Thomas Kraft. Kraft denied Mehmedi again, albeit with the Freiburg forward already flagged for offside.
Towards the end of the first half, Mehmedi missed arguably Freiburg's biggest chance of the game before, at the other end, Marcel Ndjeng failed to get the ball under control and shoot from a promising position. Mehmedi had a header tipped over the bar by Kraft early in the second half before Ramos twice tested Oliver Baumann.
First, his shot bounced just in front of the Freiburg goalkeeper, who reacted quickly to turn the ball over the crossbar. Baumann then tipped 14-goal Ramos' shot over, preserving a point for Freiburg with the home fans venting their frustration at the final whistle after the third game in a row there without a win.
