A late winner by substitute Peter MacDonald gave St. Johnstone a 1-0 away win over Hearts in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Tuesday.

MacDonald struck from close range in the 86th minute to inflict Hearts' first defeat since October.

The in-form home side, which is third in the Scottish Premier League behind Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic, had the better of the chances at Tynecastle but failed to find a cutting edge.

In other fourth-round matches, Falkirk drew 2-2 with Partick Thistle and Brechin won 2-1 at Queen of South.
