West Ham have told Valon Behrami he will remain with the club despite interest from Europe.

The Swiss midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, with a number of clubs, including Serie A side Palermo interested in the former Lazio player.

But his agent, Alessandro Beltrami, believes he will be with the London club at the start of the new season in England.

"Valon is thinking about the World Cup, his future will be discussed later," Beltrami told tuttomercatoweb.com

"West Ham have declared him non-transferable, so I think it is 99% certain he will remain in England.

"Talk of Palermo? That is good because it means the player has done well.

"However, we are happy that West Ham have made him unavailable for transfer."

The 25-year-old joined the Hammers from Lazio in 2008 and is under contract until June 2013.

West Ham's England defender Matthew Upson is hoping for a place in the starting line-up when Fabio Capello's side take on Japan in their final friendly before the World Cup on Sunday.

Upson missed out on appearing in the 3-1 victory over Mexico at Wembley on Monday but is hoping for a 20th cap against Japan in the UPC-Arena in Graz.

"It's been really good," said Upson. "The training camp was a good environment to work in, so I've enjoyed it.

"Of course I'm hopeful of being involved. I'm just going to crack on, keep my head down and do it in training every day and try to improve and see where it goes.

"To be honest, maybe towards the end people might get tense, but at the moment everyone is quite relaxed. We had a good week of training and everyone is looking forward to the next game.

"There is nothing to be nervous about. All you can do is go in and give a good account of yourself and it's out of your hands.

"Getting nervous about it isn't going to help yourself, so I think everyone is pulling in the right direction and whatever will be, will be."
