Greek police say they have arrested six suspected football hooligans and confiscated petrol bombs, flare guns and clubs in raids on fan clubs in Athens.

A police statement says the weapons were found late Tuesday in three clubs used by fans of Athens teams Olympiakos, AEK and Panionios.

The raids followed a tip-off that fans were planning attacks on rival club offices. Police seized 12 petrol bombs, flare guns, baseball bats and ice hockey sticks, as well as small quantities of cannabis.

The detainees are all men aged from 21-32, police said on Wednesday.
