Former Hearts defender Danny Grainger is hoping to win a move to Championship outfit Blackpool.

The 26-year-old full-back was released by the Tynecastle side at the end of the season after battling back from a cruciate ligament injury sustained last November.

He spent a week training with new Sheffield United boss David Weir's squad with a view to winning a contract, but has now gone on trial with the Seasiders.

Blackpool boss Paul Ince has already watched the former Gretna, Dundee United and St Johnstone left-back in action in a couple of friendlies and will run the rule over him once more when his side take on York City in their latest pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae - Ince's assistant at Bloomfield Road - said: "We're taking a look at Danny right now and he's already featured in a couple of our pre-season games.

"We want to take a look at him although a deal isn't imminent. I know Danny well from his time at Hearts and although he's had a few injuries he's a good player.

"So we will take another look at him this weekend and all being well there might be a deal on the table for him."
