Bafetimbi Gomis helped Lyon keep pace at the top of Ligue 1 after scoring two goals in their 3-1 win over Bordeaux.

The striker put the hosts in front with a smart shot in the seventh minute before doubling Lyon's lead just after half an hour with an effort from close range.

Michel Bastos added a third goal in the 64th minute to put the game out of Bordeaux's reach, a late penalty by Anthony Modeste the only consolation for the visitors.

Lyon dominated the first half, and early pressure resulted in the opening goal for Gomis.

The 26-year-old was fed a ball by Bastos, who beat Abdou Traore to release the striker at the far post, where he cut in his shot.

Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso was kept busy in the opening 20 minutes, deflecting a stunning shot by Bastos before dealing with a powerful header from unmarked Dejan Lovren.

However, Gomis added the second goal in the 33rd minute to become the top scorer in Ligue 1. Clement Grenier beat a defender and raced into the penalty area, before passing back to Gomis who struck home from close range.

Bordeaux missed a good chance to get back into the game 10 minutes after the break when Cheick Diabate saw his shot go inches wide.

Bastos added Lyon's third goal when he was released by a long ball, raced into the penalty area and lobbed the ball over Carrasso.

Kim Kallstrom almost added a fourth in the 71st minute but his shot from the edge of the area was blocked.

Bordeaux did get a consolation goal five minutes from full-time, when Lovren fouled Modeste in the area to give the visitors a penalty.

Modeste stepped up and found the back of the net after fooling Remy Vercoutre who dived to the wrong side, but it was not enough for Bordeaux.
