American striker Herculez Gomez scored twice in Puebla's 4-1 win over Cruz Azul in the Mexican league on Sunday.
He has 10 goals to tie for the tournament scoring lead.
Gomez, a Las Vegas native, put Puebla ahead in the third minute and added a goal in the 37th on a header to tie striker Johan Fano (Atlante) and Javier Hernandez (Chivas), who will not play again in Mexico because he's training with the national team and was transferred to Manchester United.
Gomez, who was red-carded near the end of the match, could be the first American to lead the Mexican league in scoring.
