Francis Gillot has signed a new contract which will keep him as Bordeaux coach until 2015.

Gillot's contract had been due to expire in the summer but he has now agreed a new deal with president Jean-Louis Triaud.

The former Lens and Sochaux coach moved to Bordeaux in 2011 and in his first season helped the Girondins qualify for the Europa League.

This season they have gone on to reach the knockout stages of the competition, where they face Dynamo Kiev.

In Ligue 1 they ended 2012 with a run of five straight draws to lie seventh in the table, three points behind a qualifying place for the Europa League.

In a press conference on the club website Gillot, who has retained his backroom staff, said he wanted to continue his work at the club and also paid tribute to the Bordeaux fans.

He said: "The support of the fans played a role. I feel that there is something to do here."
