Gera close to Baggies return

The Hungarian international, who spent four years at The Hawthorns before moving to Fulham in 2008, has been sidelined following ankle surgery and was also suspended for the opening three games of the season. Yet, although Gera is now fit, head coach Roy Hodgson is reluctant to start him against the Canaries. He said: "Zoltan is fit but not match fit because he hasn't played a game since the end of last season. "He's short of match practice so I wouldn't be looking to throw him in from the start of the game unless I have to. He started training on Monday and he could be in the squad. It depends on what happens in the internationals." Last season's 15-goal leading scorer Peter Odemwingie is also making good progress after his ankle setback but fellow striker Shane Long is still doubtful for the trip to Carrow Road with a calf injury. Hodgson added: "Peter is okay. He has trained this week and things are looking alright. With Shane, it's too early to say. The medical staff are working on him. I would say his chances are 50-50."
