Genoa has fired Gian Piero Gasperini and hired former Lazio manager Davide Ballardini as its new coach.

The move comes a day after a 1-0 loss to Palermo in Serie A, the fourth defeat in Genoa's last five games.

Led by Luca Toni, Genoa has 11 points through 10 matches.

Gasperini had coached Genoa since 2006-07, bringing the club up from Serie B after his first season.
