Genoa confident of Toni deal
Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi claims a deal to bring Bayern Munich ace Luca Toni to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on a two-year deal is all but done.
Toni spent the second half of last season on loan at Roma after falling out with Bayern coach Louis van Gaal, and the World Cup winner scored five goals in 14 appearances.
The Italy striker, who failed to make Marcello Lippi's squad for this summer's World Cup, has been linked with a number of clubs including Napoli and West Ham but is now expected to be officially announced as a Genoa player tomorrow.
"We have reached a preliminary agreement, we still need to discuss some small, but important, details," Preziosi told Teleradiostereo.
"We have offered him a two-year contract, but we still have the intention to close the deal."
Preziosi has revealed the expected signing of Toni has seen them end their interest in Roma striker Julio Baptista.
He added: "On Thursday my men, in a meeting, will talk to Roma but not about Julio Baptista.
"Toni's arrival rules out, also for tactical reasons, the signing of the Brazilian."
