Italian veteran Gennaro Gattuso has signed for Swiss club FC Sion after 13 seasons with AC Milan.

Sion presented 34-year-old Gattuso at a news conference Friday and says he signed a two-year contract.

Gattuso was released by Milan after missing much of the season due to a neuromuscular disease that affected his left eye.

The combative midfielder helped Milan win the Champions League in 2003 and `07.

Gattuso got a World Cup winner's medal with Italy in 2006.

He joins Sion after the club survived in the Swiss top division by winning a relegation playoff.

Sion endured a chaotic season blighted by legal battles. It was kicked out of the Europa League by UEFA and had 36 league points deducted by Swiss football authorities.
