Brad Friedel has extended the record for consecutive Premier League appearances to 276 matches after making his Tottenham debut against Manchester United.

The 40-year-old American started Tottenham's first match of the Premier League season Monday after replacing error-prone goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.

Friedel left Aston Villa in the offseason after three years.

Friedel made 82 appearances for the United States. He played for the Columbus Crew, Galatasaray and Brondby before moving to England in 1997 to join Liverpool. He spent eight years at Blackburn before joining Villa.
